Man sought for extradition elusive to find

A man sought for extradition to the United States is proving elusive to find, despite extensive police inquiries over the last three weeks.

Bo Jiang, aged 33, has not been seen since Monday, 3 October. He failed to turn up for a daily bail check at Wellington Police Station on Sunday 2 October and at Johnsonville on the following Monday and Tuesday. He’s also missed a scheduled court appearance in Wellington and a further warrant for his arrest has been made in relation to that matter.

Jiang is wanted for trail in the United States on charges of conspiracy and trafficking in counterfeit pharmaceuticals. He was arrested in Wellington in January and had been reporting daily to police.

Extensive inquiries have been made with known associates in Wellington but there is no information to suggest that he is currently in the capital.

Police say he also has strong links with the Auckland area and are appealing to people who know him, or know where he is, to contact police with information.

“We don’t consider Jiang to be dangerous. He is however facing serious charges in the United States and an application has been filed for his extradition so there is some motivation for him to make himself scarce,” Detective Inspector Stuart Allsopp-Smith, Auckland Metro Crime and Operations Support (AMCOS) said today.

“There’s no indications that he has left the country however we are keen to find him and resolve the matters he is facing as soon as possible.”
