Water rescue in Wellington on Guy Fawkes night

WELLINGTON CITY

On Saturday 5th November 2011 at about 8:40 pm, Police were advised a person had fallen in the water off Taranaki Street Wharf, Wellington.

The police vessel's Lady Elizabeth IV and Police 8 were on the water patrolling the Harbour exclusion zone for the fireworks display and attended.

Snr Constable Ross Lane entered the water and swam to recover the woman from under the Taranaki Street Wharf.

The 65 year old woman had slipped and fallen into the water.

Police transported the woman to the Service Jetty where she was transferred into the care of Wellington Free Ambulance.

The woman spent the night in Wellington Hospital and was treated for hypothermia.
