Rotorua District Council (RDC) is on the lookout for two people keen to offer their skills and experience to help drive the district’s future tourism growth on the Rotorua Tourism Committee.

RDC chief executive Peter Guerin said the council was inviting applicants with a good insight and understanding of Rotorua and New Zealand tourism to put their names forward for the committee’s two vacancies.

“The Tourism Committee provides leadership and support for the council and for our regional tourism organisation – Destination Rotorua Marketing. Members bring to the table innovation and fresh strategic thinking to help Rotorua build on its position as New Zealand's premier tourism destination.

“We’re looking for people with previous boardroom experience, analytical and operational competencies, good communication skills and a real passion for Rotorua.

“If you’ve also got a solid understanding of tourism marketing, and knowledge of tourism distribution channels and visitor industry sectors, then we certainly want to hear from you,” said Mr Guerin.

More information around the role of the committee, on the recent review of visitor industry representation, and on the role of Destination Rotorua Marketing was available online at rotoruaNZ.com/tourism-committee.

Tourism Committee applications close on Friday 25 November. CVs and other relevant material can be posted or delivered to the Chief Executive, Rotorua District Council, Private Bag 3029, Rotorua Mail Centre, Rotorua 3046, marked ‘Tourism Committee - Private and Confidential.’ They can also be emailed to peter.guerin@rdc.govt.nz.

An appointment panel, including two elected industry representatives, will shortlist applicants and conduct interviews.

Mr Guerin said it was the council’s intention to have the positions filled before the Rotorua Tourism Committee’s final 2011 meeting on 20 December.
