Close collaboration between Hamilton City Council and Kiwi Income Property Trust will result in an extensive redevelopment of the Centre Place retail complex, complementing Hamilton’s CityHeart Revitalisation project.
The Trust today announced the $39.9 million redevelopment of Centre Place, which includes the formal closing of Ward Street between Anglesea Street and Worley place – with Worley Place to be extended through Garden Place to Alexandra Street for traffic - and construction of a covered walkway between the two parts of Centre Place. Farmers will become an anchor tenant for the redeveloped complex, with a two-floor 7000 square metre store.
Hamilton Mayor Julie Hardaker says: “This is brilliant news, and Kiwi Income Property Trust proceeding with this significant investment fits in so well with our own initiatives for the central city. The Council is committed to a number of projects aimed at bringing more life to Hamilton’s central city and this redevelopment is a very important part of that.”
Shopper carparking is becoming more accessible with Council improving access into its Garden Place carpark via a signalled intersection on Anglesea Street, due for completion next month. The removal of a traffic island on Bryce Street also means vehicles entering from Anglesea Street can turn right into the Centre Place car park. Council has also made good progress with landscaping and ‘street-scaping’ improvements to Bryce Street, Ward Street, Worley Place, Alexandra Street and Garden Place.
