Wintec will award its first international fellowship to Chengdu University President Zhou Jiliu next year.

Wintec chair Gordon Chesterman says: “An honorary fellowship is Wintec’s highest honour. This inaugural international fellowship has special significance and highlights the importance of our relationship with President Zhou and Chengdu University in China.”

Wintec Chief Executive Mark Flowers says: “Global partnerships, such as this one, enrich our organisation and region through the exchange of students, teachers, ideas, knowledge and research. We are pleased to publicly recognise President Zhou’s contribution and commitment to Wintec and Hamilton.”

Despite demanding roles as head of Chengdu University, a university professor and sought after information technology and computing expert, President Zhou still finds time to be an ardent supporter of Wintec.

Since 2008 he has sent 33 Chengdu staff members to Wintec to share teaching ideas and practice.

Together with Wintec, President Zhou helped develop opportunities for Chengdu University students to study English at Wintec then enter into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the School of Media Arts.

Chengdu University has also supported joint research and conference presentations with Wintec’s School of Business and School of Education.

President Zhou says: “The co-operation with Wintec is a most important relationship for Chengdu University’s internationalisation. It is also one of the most successful projects in Chengdu University’s overseas project history. I am glad that Wintec recognises this.”

Professor Zhou will be presented with his fellowship in 2012.
