Auckland City business will benefit from one of New Zealand’s leading business directors, with John Waller accepting the reins as chairman of BNZ Partners in Auckland City.

The chairman role is unique in the New Zealand banking industry, where business and industry leaders are recruited to give each area’s managing partner support and provide market experience.

BNZ currently has 26 of 31 planned Partners Centres completed and operational, with each centre having a chairman. Existing chairs include Dame Susan Devoy, Bob Harvey, John Bongard, Greg Gent and Gary Monk.

Mr Waller is the current chairman of the board of directors at BNZ, as well as the Eden Park Trust. He is also a director on a number of companies, including Fonterra Co-operative Group.

Previously he was Head of Advisory at PriceWaterhouseCoopers where responsibilities included mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory services, business recovery, business reviews and a wide range of corporate activities in his 20 year involvement in this sector.

Mr Waller says “I am glad to assist and join the group of other highly-regarded New Zealand business people who are part of the chairman programme.”

BNZ Managing Partner of Auckland City Lyndon Settle says Mr Waller is an invaluable addition to the Auckland City Partnership given his breadth of experience and emphasises the importance of the wider Auckland business.

“A huge added bonus is John is well-versed in the ways of BNZ, and will be able to hit the ground running in bringing a wealth of knowledge to both myself, and our clients.”

Mr Waller’s role as Auckland City Partners chairman is an interim position, with a permanent replacement set to be announced next year.
