BLENHEIM

Work is underway on the first improvements to Blenheim’s town centre to come out of the long-term planning document "Blenheim Town Centre: A Vision For The Future", with a new cycleway and street trees planted along Seymour Street.

It’s great to see the results starting to come out of all the planning and consultation of the last couple of years says CBD councillor Terry Sloan.

Eleven Liquidambar trees will be planted along Seymour Street. This is the preferred species, as it has a proven track record in urban environments. As well as providing the framework for a scenic view to the Wither Hills, the trees will divide the footpath from adjacent car parks both visually and physically.

The 4m trees will provide shade and improve the overall appearance of this streetscape.
A dedicated cycle lane, identified with green and white lines, will run along sections of Seymour Street and Maxwell Road.

These are high-volume traffic streets but the aim is to make the town centre more cycle-friendly in line with Marlborough’s Walking and Cycling Strategy 2010.

The tree planting and lane painting will be completed by early next month.
