Along with the investigation into this week's fire on the Karikari Peninsula, Northland Police will be reviewing all recent rural fires in the Far North area.

Northland's new District Commander Superintendent Russell Le Prou says he is aware of community concerns regarding these fires and will be asking for a review of all fires in the area.

"I am also ensuring that there will be a thorough investigation of the latest fire on Karikari Peninsula and would encourage anyone who has information on how it may have started to come forward."

Mr Le Prou says he understands the difficulty that some people who live in small communities have in coming forward to tell Police about anything that has occurred.

"I encourage those people who are reluctant to talk to Police directly to consider calling Crimestoppers, on 0800 55 111, with any information they may have.
Through Crimestoppers people can keep their anonymity, but the information they pass on helps Police to establish what has occurred.

Mr Le Prou says Police staff are committed to finding out what caused the fire and their thoughts are with the families of two men who died in the helicopter crash.
