CANTERBURY

Children from four primary schools across the four corners of Christchurch have banded together to sing a brand new song about resilience following a year of upheaval and uncertainty.

Jim Cullinane, a relief teacher at several of these schools wrote “Roll With It” as a tribute to the spirit and tenacity of Canterbury’s young children. Many of the ideas and lyrics come straight from the children he teaches, and it’s a simple song with gentle humour and a rousing chorus as a positive response to how well the kids are coping, rather than dwelling on the past.

“It’s great to see the children getting on with living and learning after all we’ve been through. They’re a lot more accepting of change than most adults and they just seem to roll with it. While the USAR teams, emergency services and the student volunteer army have been rightly praised, I think our children are amongst the many unsung heroes of Canterbury, so here’s a little song for them to sing and own.”

Children from Redcliffs, Queenspark, Merrin and Yaldhurst Schools recorded the song at Waimairi Community Hall in late November and the song was debuted on Newstalk ZB with Mike Yardley on 5th December.
