Three local motor vehicle dealers will be supplying and maintaining the Marlborough District Council vehicles for the next four years.

The Council recently reviewed its vehicle needs, establishing that it was more economical to buy some of the vehicles outright at the end of their lease period, especially where they had been fitted with specialised components to fulfil their role, like Civil Defence vehicles.

All radio telephones fitted to Council vehicles are also going to need to be upgraded too as the analogue network is being disbanded. The new units will have digital capacity.

Council has also been advised that The Ministry of Economic Development has extended to local government some contracts under their bulk purchase initiative; this is termed ‘All of Government contracts’. The categories to date allow Council to buy office supplies and equipment at a discounted price.

The Ministry of Economic Development is currently looking at extending cover to such things as legal services, travel, electricity and recruitment.

The Marlborough District Council will look carefully at the options as they come available, taking into consideration the level of potential savings to be made on behalf of ratepayers as well as the terms and conditions of the contracts.
