Anyone with an interest in the Council’s plan to develop a small public park on the site of the Queen Street car park is invited to come along to a meeting at the Council on Monday evening.

The ‘pocket park’ is one of the ideas to come out of the Growing Marlborough Blenheim Town Centre Report: “A Vision for the Future” – the Council’s town planning project which has been underway since 2009.

The Council this year decided on the first projects to begin from that Blenheim Town Centre Report; street trees and a cycle lane on Seymour Street, gateway entrances to the town at Grove Road and Alfred Street and a small green pocket park at the northern end of Queen Street.

The ‘pocket park’ concept developed from the report proposes to:

• Build a pocket park on the total area of Queen Street car park (excluding the right of way)
• Expand the park area onto the south western corner of Queen and Charles Street so there is a direct view through to green park from Market Place
• Have a permanent stage for events and space to hold markets
• Replace the existing public toilets with a smaller unit
• Remove all the 43 car park spaces in the current Queen Street car park
• Remove seven car parks at the southern end of Queen Street
• Include both paved and grassed areas.

The Council is asking for another round of feedback so that the final designs can be developed.
