The assessor remarked on the spacious, high quality furnishings in the Hilton reception area, interesting local art on display, wonderful views and convenient access to the Lake and walking tracks. Both hotels were commended for the friendliness of staff and their systems for recognising guests as well as the attractiveness of the garden areas.

Guests at Kawarau Hotel, managed by Hilton benefited from having access to food and beverage outlets in the Hilton and are able to book spa treatments in eforea: spa at Hilton.

Both hotels were praised for the excellent Hilton reservation system in place as well as top notch systems for both positive and negative feedback.

The hotels were each awarded Enviro Bronze status recognising the level of commitment and pragmatic approach to being responsible tourism operations. Measures incorporated into the running of the properties include energy efficiencies in lighting, heating and water use, recycling of water for non-potable uses such as irrigation, low water native gardens, kitchen oil reuse for biofuel and several other reuse and recycling initiatives.

Hilton Queenstown General Manager Marlene Poynder said she and her team were ‘thrilled with the result’.

“Since opening earlier this year, we have worked incredibly hard to get it right in terms of making the very most of our stunning lakeside location and providing the best possible guest experience. We have worked to establish not only two superb hotels, but an entire village complete with a wide variety of eateries, bars, spa, leisure and recreation facilities that serve local people and visitors alike,” she said.

“It has been a massive undertaking for our entire team and, just six months in, we are delivering at least what we said we would in terms of hotels integrated into a village atmosphere that is deeply connected to the local community.

“We are delighted to be independently assessed at this level.”
