Serious Assault In Ranui

Waitakere CIB is investigating the circumstances in which a 43 year old male has died after a serious assault in the West Auckland suburb of Ranui.

Police say the alleged assault happened on Thursday 17 November 2011. The victim did not seek medical attention at the time but later began feeling unwell.

An ambulance was called after a friend became concerned for his well being and he was eventually taken to Auckland Hospital on Wednesday 28 November 2011.

The man’s condition deteriorated and he died in hospital of a bacterial infection on Saturday 3 December 2011.

At the Coroner’s request, Waitakere Police are reviewing the circumstances of the assault and the culmination of events that have resulted in the man’s death.
