Auckland has been slammed as the most unfriendly town in New Zealand – but Mayor Len Brown isn’t having it.

In the latest online poll run by Yahoo! NZ Travel, people were asked which city in New Zealand they thought was the least friendly.

With a whopping 50% – more than 2000 votes - Auckland took the title by a huge lead.

However, Supercity Mayor Brown isn’t fazed by the results. He pointed out that other polls had put Auckland at the top of the friendly stakes.

“In a scientific survey carried out in the wake of Rugby World Cup, 92 per cent of people commented on the friendliness of Aucklanders,” says Mayor Brown “That’s the Auckland I know and love.”

Coming in second place as the most unfriendly NZ town was Hamilton with 18% of the votes followed by Christchurch sitting at 13%. Wellington sat at 8%.

Friendliest of all was Dunedin, which received only 3% of the “unfriendly” votes, an outcome which didn’t surprise Dunedin Mayor Dan Cull. “I would have expected that!” he said confidently.

The poll ran for 1 week from Monday 28 November with a total of 4,231 votes cast on NZ’s #1 online travel site
