Wellington Police seek Good Samaritan in assault incident

WELLINGTON CITY

Wellington Police are looking for a Good Samaritan who came to the aid of a female who was assaulted in Newtown recently.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton of the Wellington CIB says around 9:30pm on Wednesday 7 December 2011, the 23 year old female was grabbed while walking along Newtown Avenue.

"A male has approached the victim from behind, grabbed her and put her in a tight headlock. The victim fought back and was able to kick the male who released his grip allowing her to flee."

She ran towards Daniell Street, where a Good Samaritan stopped his car and drove her to a safe location.The victim was shaken, but otherwise unhurt.

"We have been unable to locate this Good Samaritan and would really like to speak with him further, given he may have seen the offender. He's described as a European middle aged male with short dark hair, who was driving a black four wheel drive."

D/S/S Thornton says Police would also like to speak to witnesses who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident on Wednesday 7 December.
