Final media update: Jwong Woo 2

A United States Airforce (USAF) C-130 Hercules aircraft has arrived from McMurdo station back in Christchurch with the 7 injured crew for further treatment as required. Three of the men are seriously injured.

  • Note that photos and video of the landing werere not available. The USAF advised there was no media access or interviews when the aircraft landed in Christchurch.
  • Jeong Woo No.3 has been instructed (when it is considered safe to do so) to tow the wreck of Jeong Woo No.2 to a position north of 60 degrees south, when her future will be decided. All 30 survivors are now on board Jeong Woo No. 3.
  • M/v Araon is steaming to Terra Nova Bay to recover her shore party. She will then rendezvous with Jeong Woo No.3 to take on board the 30 remaining survivors and bring them to Lyttelton
  • With the arrival of the injured crew in Christchurch, RCCNZ’s role in this incident has now come to an end and there wil be no further updates.
