Moerewa’s water supply will be shut down for six hours next month for essential maintenance.

Far North District Council contractor Transfield Services is turning the town’s reticulated water supply off at midnight on January 4 to install a valve in a water main.

It expects to turn the water back on at 6am on January 5.

Council spokesman Richard Edmondson says Transfield is undertaking the repairs during the early hours of the morning to minimise inconvenience to residents.

The council apologises for the loss of service and advises people to store water for drinking and sanitary purposes (hand washing) if they are likely to need this during the shutdown.
