With less than one month of voting remaining, Aucklanders are being encouraged to vote for their airport in the 2012 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards.

And that encouragement is coming right from the top. “I encourage all Aucklanders to take a few minutes to vote in the 2012 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards,” says Mayor Len Brown. “Auckland Airport is a thriving economic growth engine which will play a huge part in Auckland becoming the world’s most liveable city.

“As we saw in the recent RWC, Auckland knows how to put on a great event, and the visitor experience started the moment they landed at the airport. Auckland is already recognised as having one of the best airports in the world, and that’s something for all of us to be proud of.”

As New Zealand's largest airport gateway Auckland Airport welcomes and farewells almost 14 million passengers every year, and as a result of continuous improvements, upgrades and service enhancements, is ranked the top airport in the Asia Pacific region, and is sitting at eighth place globally.

“Delivering a world-class service to everyone that travels through our airport is a strong focus for us,” says Auckland Airport Chief Executive, Simon Moutter. “As Auckland Airport welcomes or farewells the majority of international visitors to New Zealand we are very proud Kiwis, and we’d love to get the nations’ support in being the best airport we can be on a global scale.”

The 2011 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards were based on survey results from 11.38 million questionnaires completed by more than 100 different nationalities of airline passengers in 2010/2011, covering more than 240 airports worldwide. The survey evaluates traveller experiences across 39 parts of the airport experience – from check-in, arrivals, to trolleys, cleanliness and the shopping experience. The survey is held in high esteem for its clarity of process, independence and rigorously applied rules.

Voting is now open for the 2012 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards and we encourage you to vote for your favourite airport at www.betterjourneys.co.nz
