Even though pita bread has been enjoyed throughout much of the world for thousands of years, most New Zealanders didn’t know what real pita bread was until Danny Eliahu, his wife Hassida and sons introduced it to us in 1988.

Since then other pita bread manufacturers have joined the market but unlike Danny, most of them use machines to ‘cookie cut’ their pitas, making them weaker and likely to fall apart when attempting to use them as a pocket for filling. In contrast, Danny’s Real Pita Bread Company uses a centuries’ old recipe and makes fresh pita bread in the traditional way, rolling individual balls of dough that are pressed into shape, making strong edges, to hold in the food.

Danny’s Real Mini Pita Bread is a traditional soft smaller pita. Children love these, as unlike some breads or rolls, they can fit their hands around them. Perfect for back to school lunch boxes; you can fill them with your child’s favourite fillings, or sneak in some salad for a healthy choice!

With summer here, Danny’s Real Mini Pita Bread is perfect for a picnic. Fill with your favourite meats such as ham, chicken, or beef, with salad and your choice of sauce. Alternatively vegetarians can enjoy with salad and vegetables.

Perfect for the barbecue season, brush with olive oil and lightly BBQ each side and fill with grilled lamb and salad. Superb with hummus and Danny’s Falafels, or for children fill mini pockets with sliced hot sausage, lettuce and tomato sauce or mild mustard.

For delicious mini-pizzas, top Danny’s mini-pitas with pizza sauce, grated cheese, ham or salami and tomato and grill or bake in the oven until sizzling.

Danny doesn’t use preservatives or additives across his entire product range and recommends you avoid fridge storage as it dries them out. To keep the mini pita as fresh as possible, Danny recommends you freeze immediately, and use one by one as needed. From freezer to microwave in twenty seconds or from your freezer to your toaster in three minutes. Warming your pita makes it soft, easy to open and fill.

For the first time, Danny’s Real Mini Pita is available nationwide in long life packs. Choices include white, wholemeal or oat bran. RRP around $3.99 for pack of 8.
