Nominations for the 2012 Hutt City Sports Awards are now open.

After an immensely successful comeback event in 2011, the Hutt City Sports Awards are set to become an annual occurrence on the Lower Hutt calendar.

Organising Committee Chair and local Hutt sporting identity Ken Laban says the Awards provide opportunity for the city’s high achievers to be recognised for their hard work over the past twelve months.

“Last year we had plenty of nominations, and we know there have been a great number of achievements by our athletes since then. So we’re putting the call out to the wider sporting community to get hold of a nomination form and help us give these fantastic people the recognition they deserve.”

While athletes make a large portion of the awards, there is also opportunity for officials, coaches, and administrators/volunteers to be put forward for selection.

The Awards Ceremony will occur this year on the evening of Thursday 3 May, and nominations close at noon on Friday 23 March.

Categories are Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Young Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Disabled Athlete of the Year, Official of the Year, and Administrator/Volunteer of the Year, with winners selected from three finalists of each category announced on the evening, along with an Overall Winner.

The Hutt City Sportsperson of the Year trophy was awarded to Nick Willis in 2011, and before that current CEO of Sport New Zealand, Peter Miskimmin was recognised back in 1988 for his achievements in the sport of Hockey.
