February 2012: Club kicks off New Year with even more trophies and rewards up for grabs, thanks to $1,000 prize money

Over 150 local kids will turn up to Massey Athletics Club on Monday to find even more rewards and trophies up for grabs, thanks to the $1,000 prize money being awarded to the Club following its win of an Instant Finance Community Spirit Award.

Hundreds of community organisations, individuals and projects from around the country were nominated through Instant Finance branches in December 2011, with 12 highly deserving organisations each winning a $1,000 Instant Finance Community Spirit Award.

Club Captain, Rob Davis, said: “This is a very generous Award from Instant Finance, and we are particularly honoured that we were nominated by people from our community.

“Massey Athletics Club is known as a place where families can all participate in healthy sporting activity together, and thousands of kids over the past 40 years have learnt to run, jump, throw balls and have fun, thanks to the efforts of the Club.

“We help the local community by providing them with a successful sporting club, which encourages all children to have fun, develop skills that will lead to a healthy active lifestyle and participate in athletics safely in the spirit of fair play. We also organise an annual fun Half Marathon run in Whenuapai and provide kids with a safe place to run in the winter with cross country events.”

Instant Finance has been running its successful Community Spirit programme for over seven years, with more than 100 organisations and community projects around the country benefiting from the $1,000 grants during this time.

Potential beneficiaries could be nominated by anyone through the entry boxes at local Instant Finance branches, and historically, have included assistance for local sports clubs, community projects, the arts, church led projects, individual grant requests and charities.

This year, 12 organisations and initiatives will benefit from the Community Spirit programme, including:

• North Able, Whangarei
• Elim Soup Kitchen, Manurewa
• Linwood Rugby Club, Christchurch
• Kiwi Super Tots, Onehunga
• Massey Athletics Club, Royal Heights
• The Company NZ, Kilbirnie
• Plunket Rotorua
• Carlson School, New Lynn
• Papakura Toy Library, Takanini
• Hutt Valley Special Olympics, Wellington
• Omahu Huia Rugby League Club, Hastings
• Christchurch City Cadet Unit, Christchurch

Massey Athletics Club meets at Moire Park, Granville Drive every Monday at 5:15pm, from end of October to end of March. It caters for children aged 2yrs to 15yrs old, and is affiliated to Athletics NZ.
