A 22 year old Kapiti man has been charged with manslaughter, following the fatal crash on State Highway 1 near Paekakariki on Monday night.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Rongonui of the Porirua CIB says the driver of the northbound vehicle has this afternoon been charged with the manslaughter of 28 year old Stacey Awhina Reweti as well as unlawful taking.

"The accused was discharged from Wellington Hospital earlier this afternoon and is now in Police custody to appear in the Porirua District Court tomorrow."

Enquiries are continuing into the fatal crash, which occurred at 9:45pm on Monday 13 February. The driver of the southbound vehicle remains in Wellington Hospital.
