A 27 year old female pedestrian has died from the injuries she received after being struck by a motor vehicle early yesterday morning.

The incident happened on Morrin Road, St Johns, at about 5.15am Saturday 3 March 2012. The vehicle failed to stop after hitting the female victim. She was taken by ambulance to Auckland hospital with critical injuries, but died earlier today. The deceased has been identified as:

APULU FAAFUA / Alesi: Aged 27 years: - DOB 20/2/1985 Resident of Auckland:

Police say they are seeking the whereabouts of a motor vehicle that is described as being a grey sedan or station wagon, possibly a Ford Falcon. It is likely to have frontal damage. This vehicle was last seen on Morrin Road heading in the direction of College Road, St Johns.

Detective Sergeant James Robson of the Glen Innes CIB is leading the investigation. He says police want to speak to anyone who was at the Le Puha Night club in the early hours of Saturday 3 March 2012. They appeal to anyone who sighted any vehicle leaving the car park at the nightclub at about 5.00am.

“A print media report this morning which states that the driver of the vehicle involved is believed to have followed the victim from the nightclub is without any basis of fact. Such assertions are not helpful to the police investigation,” Detective Sergeant Robson said.

“The family is extremely distressed by this tragic event and they have requested that media give them privacy during their time of grief,” Mr. Robson said.

Anyone who has information that will assist Glen Innes CIB in this investigation is urged to call Detective Sergeant James Robson at 09 524 1936 or alternatively call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
