The first couple of rounds of singles at the 2012 National Badminton Championships had no upsets on the court but did have the men's top seed, Southland's James Eunson pull out with a bout of the flu.

However every other seed eased into the third round of the tournament which is being held at the Auckland Badminton Stadium until Sunday afternoon.

Last year's beaten finalist, TJ Weistra from the Waikato will now most likely have a crunch match in the quarters against former Kiwi representative Joe Wu(Northland) and with Eunson now out of the singles a reasonably clear path to the final.

Second seed Luke Charlesworth from Waitakere moved into the third round as did other seeds Ashraf Dhoray(Auckland) and Asher Richardson while Auckland's Brent Miller put paid to veteran and 1986 Commonwealth Games medallist Kerrin Harrison in straight games.

The women's top seeds also progressed in the third round with No1 Anna Rankin(Southland), Amanda Brown(Waikato), Auckland's Lilian Shih and North Harbour's Anona Pak all through.

Play continues on Saturday with quarters and semifinals with the finals on Sunday from 11am.
