Following empty supermarket shelves after a rush of buying up supplies, Night 'n Day Food stores noted all of their sites still held stocks of Marmite.

However, even Night 'n Day has had increased sales following Monday morning's news that Marmite supplies were in short supply.

Director of Night 'n Day, Andrew Lane notes that Marmite is a Kiwi icon.

"Marmite is part of the Kiwi breakfast. Lunches and after school, some even put it in gravy on the roast. The Marmite jar is even on tee shirts," says Lane.

Lane says he is unsure how long Marmite supplies were going to last at Night 'n Day stores.

"We've checked all of our stores this morning and all sites still had some supplies as at 9am yesterday. "

Lane adds that with ANZAC day coming up if supplies got very short there is a solution.

"Perhaps as a last resort it may be the time to try Vegemite - the Aussie alternative. Every so often we need to embrace a bit of Aussie culture on occasions like this. "

Night 'n Day is a Kiwi owned 45 store chain stretching from Whangarei to Invercargill and serves its local communities with convenience goods, grocery and hot food.

Night 'n Day stores were founded 28 years ago and now primarily work with local owners involved in their local community.
