Man dies in forestry accident

WHANGANUI

At approximately 10.20am today (Wednesday, 11 April) Police were advised by Ambulance of the death of a man in the Brunswick area of Whanganui.

The local man in his 30s was one of a group undertaking forestry work on a forestry block off Tokomaru West Road. He was involved in the felling of a tree when he sustained fatal injuries.

The Fire Service assisted Police in recovering the man's body from the forestry block.

There are no suspicious circumstances and the death will now be referred to the Coroner. The Department of Labour will also be advised.

As the case is now being referred to the Coroner no further comment will be made by Police in relation to the man's injuries of the cause of his death.

Police expect to be in a position to name the man tomorrow.
