The next stage of development at the district’s new cemetery is about to begin.

From Monday, pine trees will be removed from 11ha of land at the site of the Mangapouri Cemetery, near Egmont Village.

“Once the trees are removed a final topographical assessment can be made in order to complete the final design for the new cemetery,” says Manager Parks Mark Bruhn.

The removal will be finished by the end of May. During this project, Water Intake Road – the southern forest access track off Plantation Road – will be closed to the public.

“Those wishing to access the mountain bike track in Lake Mangamahoe Forest this month will have to use the northern forest access track off Plantation Road, as the southern forest access track will be inaccessible,” says Mr Bruhn.
