GREYMOUTH

A Police search and rescue team this morning resumed their search for a man who disappeared after a short pursuit near Greymouth last night.

A Police patrol spotted a car being driven erratically near the Cobden Tip Head. The car did not stop when the Police approached and a pursuit was initiated.

Almost immediately the vehicle crashed and the driver decamped on foot. He was last seen by the officers in a lake. The man indicated to the officers that he was stuck in mud and shortly after disappeared.

It was raining heavily at the time and ground searches failed to find any sign of the man. The Police dive squad is this morning enroute to Greymouth from Christchurch.

The missing person is not the registered owner of the vehicle.
