Lower Hutt Police are continuing to investigate the death of a Hutt Valley Flyer bus driver last night.

Acting Wellington District Crime Services Manager Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson says Police are now able to release the name of the deceased. He was 64 year old Herman Emanuel Curry of Epuni.

“A scene examination has been underway today at the Waterloo Interchange bus depot, where Mr Curry was discovered around 10pm last night.

CPR was performed by Ambulance staff but the victim died at the scene. A post-mortem is underway in Wellington this afternoon.

“Mr Curry’s cash box from the bus he was driving has not been located. We want to hear from anyone who may have seen this cash box in the vicinity of the Waterloo Interchange or anyone who knows where it is now. Attached are photos of a similar cash box used on Hutt Valley Flyer buses.”

The cash box is 26 centimetres in length, about 11 centimetres in height and 12 centimetres in depth.

“We have set up a dedicated 0800 free phone number for anyone who has any information on the whereabouts of this cash box or anyone who was in the vicinity of the Waterloo Interchange bus depot last night, between 6pm and midnight who may have witnessed anyone or anything suspicious.”

Detective Inspector Thomson says commuters would have been returning to Lower Hutt by train and bus last night and may hold vital information for Police.

Anyone with any information in relation to the investigation should contact the 0800 free phone number which has been set up: 0800 OP WATER (0800 679 2837).
