CHRISTCHURCH

Paper Plus stores throughout Christchurch have announced the 12 lucky winners of the creative competition, which challenged people to design what they wanted Christchurch’s Cathedral Square to look like in the future.

The competition, which was launched on 5th April, encouraged participants to get artistic and re-design the city’s much loved Square in an inspired way – the challenge was set, and met!

Paper Plus The Palms assistant manager, Kirsty Hayward, who came up with the concept, says that the calibre of the entries was very impressive and the participating children, ranging in age from six to 15, responded well to the competition.

“Entries were solely judged on their creativity, which allowed for as much artistic licence as possible! The winners of this competition prove that there are no limits to what Christchurch can be in the future, and it’s so exciting to be seeing this coming from a younger generation”, says Kirsty.

Paper Plus The Palms winner Imogen Maynard, 10, whose artwork was a nod to a monopoly board, creatively expressed how she thought Christchurch acknowledge the people and buildings affected in the Canterbury earthquakes.

“The street names in my Square must be ones in the red zone because it will be a memorial for all the people who have died,” says Imogen.

Six Paper Plus stores throughout Christchurch participated in the competition which saw all 12 winners walk away with a fully-loaded Faber Castell prize-pack, including colouring-in pencils, highlighters and canvases.

Participating stores included The Palms, Hornby, South City, Merivale, Northlands and New Brighton.
