Porirua Police are continuing to investigate a sexual assault which occurred in Cannons Creek Park in the early hours of Sunday morning and want to hear from any possible witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Dave Jones of the Porirua CIB says Police are investigating an allegation of a sexual attack which occurred around 5am on Sunday 29 April.

"The 21 year old victim entered the park via an alleyway from Worcester Street. As she walked into the park she noticed a group of males standing amongst trees beside the alleyway."

It's then alleged that one of the males in the group approached the victim and sexually assaulted her.

"The offender is described as Samoan in his 30's or 40's of tall height and solid build with an afro-style haircut. It's understood he also spoke to the victim in Samoan."

Detective Sergeant Jones says during the incident, the victim lost a number of personal belongings, including a pink Telecom cell phone which has not yet been recovered.

"We would urgently like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Cannons Creek Park area in the early hours of Sunday morning, or anyone who has information which would assist us in our investigation. I urge those people to come forward and speak with us as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information should contact Porirua Police on (04) 238 1400 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
