The Mayor is calling for parties bringing integrated ticketing to Auckland’s public transport system to assure patrons there will be no further delays in the introduction of the scheme.

Reports this morning suggest timelines surrounding the introduction of integrated ticketing on some bus services may be under pressure.

“Frankly, Auckland needs fully integrated ticketing and, for various reasons, has been waiting for far too long. The time for further excuses has long passed, now is the time for all the parties involved to complete this project. That is my very clear expectation,” says Len Brown.

“Demand for public transport in Auckland is going through the roof. Initiatives like our new electric train fleet and integrated ticketing along with infrastructure like the Central Rail Link play a vital role in coping with that growing demand and unleashing the potential of public transport across Auckland.

“I have not been informed of any delay at this stage and Auckland Transport has assured me they remain determined the system will be up and running on time."
