Environment Canterbury and City Care staff are investigating the death of more than 130 eels at Curletts Drain, near Magdela Place today.

Environment Canterbury is looking to identify the source of the discharge, which is a white foam, likely to be a cleaning compound.

It has been discharged into a stormwater drain and has then entered the waterway.

If you have any knowledge of the source of this discharge please phone the Pollution Hotline on 0800 76 55 88 or 03 366 4663.
