Leading real estate agency Bayleys has become the first company to receive the Auckland University Graduate Employer of the Year Award.

The award, which was introduced by the university this year, is presented to the employer which has made the biggest contribution to the employment, career growth, and development of students graduating with a Bachelor of Property from The University of Auckland Business School.

It was presented to Bayleys during the university’s department of property graduate awards held last week.Bayleys was nominated for the award by Bayleys Realty Group portfolio manager Stefanie Ayton.

To nominate Bayleys, Ms Ayton sent in a written submission to Auckland University explaining how the company had supported and cultivated her personal career, encompassing such criteria as:

  • Workplace environment and culture – embracing a work-life balance, team spirit, and social events.
  • Her role within the Bayleys marketing team – featuring her exposure to the wider real estate industry, and the responsibilities that entails.
  • The support and training she receives.
  • Her career growth path within the organisation.
  • Mentoring within the team.

Ms Ayton’s submission emphasised in particular the benefits of having an in-house recruitment manager, and the initial training she received, which saw her sent on a course in Australia during her second week in the role.

Ms Ayton graduated from Auckland University in 2011 with a joint bachelor of commerce and bachelor of property degree.

While studying, she attended a networking evening hosted by Bayleys where she met with key personnel and discussed job opportunities. Shortly before completing studies, Ms Ayton accepted the role of Bayleys Realty Group media planning and database coordinator.

Bayleys Realty Group general manager Greg Hornblow said he was extremely proud of the accolade – both from a Bayleys’ perspective in being recognised as an outstanding employer, and from Ms Ayton’s perspective for making the nomination.

“At Bayleys we pride ourselves on providing a supportive environment and culture which encourages personal development and growth.,” Mr Hornblow said.

“This leads to not only an actively engaged and high performing workforce, but is also beneficial to the company as a whole.”
