If you’re back on your bike after a long time out of the saddle, or keen to pedal again, Hamilton City Council has a course to ensure you’re safe on the road.

Council’s Sustainable Travel team has arranged two-hour cycle training sessions on Saturday 26 May, aimed at adult riders needing a confidence boost or a few tips on safe riding. Cycling continues to grow in popularity, and the New Zealand Household Travel Survey 2007-2010 showed 19 per cent of people cycled every month.

Sustainable Travel Facilitator Kevin Hogg says the course will cover cycle safety aspects, from riding, braking, cornering and gear changes to hand signals, steering and emergency stop situations.

“These things may all seem pretty straightforward, but we think Bigfoot Adventure’s Julie Roe – the course instructor – will give some really valuable tips to cyclists,” Mr Hogg says.

Riders attending should have their own bicycles and helmets, and some experience riding a bicycle. To register, email roads@hcc.govt.nz.
