Fatal Crash

<p>The East Taupo Arterial section of State Highways 1 &amp; 5 has been closed as emergency services deal with the scene of a fatal crash involving a car and a truck.</p> <p>The head-on collision occurred at 3.50p.m. and initial indications are that the car may have veered into the path of the northbound truck.</p> <p>At least one person from the car is dead and one other has serious injuries.&nbsp; It has yet to be confirmed how many people were in the car.&nbsp; The truck driver is uninjured and speaking to police at the scene.</p> <p>NZTA contractors have closed the section of highway and diversions are signposted.&nbsp; The scene is expected to be closed for some considerable time and delays can be expected as traffic is diverted through Taupo township.</p> <p>Any further releases will be made by Taupo police.</p>
