HOKONUI: FRESH LOOK, FRESH PLAYLIST

Hokonui Gold will undergo a major change this Friday June 1st when it becomes simply Hokonui 94.8FM. Radio Clutha will become South Otago’s Hokonui 91.3 FM.

Since Jamie Mackay and Lee Piper started the station in April 1994 Hokonui has gone through a number of changes. These latest changes coincide with Hokonui’s 18th birthday.

“Over the past six months we have been examining what should be the next step. We are proudly a local station and want to maintain the heritage of what Hokonui has stood for”, said Lee Piper, now The Radio Network’s Southland regional manager.

The changes include a new breakfast line up with Brad Richards (finalist for best new broadcaster at the 2012 NZ Radio Awards) and local identity Kirstin Chittock. The farming shows will continue and Craig Waddell moves to host the afternoon show.

Hokonui has a fresh, new, playlist featuring artists like Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood.

There’s also a fresh, new look logo, designed to be representative of the famous Hokonui hills.

“We are very excited about the changes and think this major investment in Hokonui will secure the future of this iconic Southland brand for many years to come”, said Mr Piper.
