Taupō District residents are advised that the 25-metre indoor pool at Taupō’s AC Baths is closed indefinitely due to safety concerns.
Taupō District Council officers made the decision to close the pool today due to internal tiles falling from the roof. Council had planned to close the pool in three weeks to start refurbishment work but made the decision to close it early as a result of the falling tiles and the serious risk of someone getting hurt.
Group Manager Operational Services, Gareth Green, says Council kept the pool open for as long as possible. “We know the public really enjoys using the pool and had held off on closing it for as long as we could, but now the situation is urgent and we must close it for public safety.”
Council has set aside $5.9 million for basic repairs to the AC Baths buildings.
