After a pitting their gaming skills against some of the nation’s best-known sports names, musicians and media, Che Fu (musician) and Alan Bell (NZ Gamer editor) have been named the winners of the PlayStation Vita Vodafone Charity Challenge.

Che and Alan were up against three rival teams (Manu Vatuvei and John Lai, Ben Matulino and Siobahan Keogh, and Thomas Abercrombie and Gerard Campbell) yesterday in an ‘Amazing Race’ style contest that played out at Auckland’s Viaduct. Each team had to carry out a series of challenges featuring a range of the PlayStation®Vita (PS®Vita) games and 3G enabled social applications including You Tube, Facebook, Twitter and Skype.

After an intense competition and fierce rivalry, Che and Alan came out on top. They took home not only bragging rights but also a $1,000 cheque for their chosen charity, Canteen which supports young people living with cancer.

“I’m really chuffed to take out the PlayStation Vita Vodafone Charity Challenge. Racing round the Viaduct doing tasks like playing the augmented reality game, Reality Fighters, was awesome. It was really cool that we could use the Vodafone 3G connection and social apps to get clues and give people live updates on Twitter and Facebook about what we were doing” says Che Fu.

“I’m really happy that this win will provide Canteen with a donation” he adds.

David Hine, Director of Sales and Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand says, “The PlayStation Vita gives users the best immersive, portable gaming experience on the market and the four teams competing yesterday had a blast battling it out with the PS Vita.”

“With social gaming and connectivity at the heart of PlayStation Vita, Vodafone’s award winning high speed 3G network is vital to ensure users have a high quality experience so they can be connected with their PlayStation life, friends and games, wherever they are” states Graham Wright, Head of Brand Engagement & Sponsorship, Vodafone New Zealand.
