Applications invited for Performing Arts Contestable Fund

Applications for Hamilton’s annual Performing Arts Contestable Fund open for the first time tomorrow (Wednesday, 18 July).

The $100,000 fund supports projects that contribute to the development of sustainable performing arts programmes and audience growth, and enhance the skills of performing arts organisations or practitioners in Hamilton. It is allocated by a committee including a Hamilton City Councillor(s) and five members of the public.

Councillor Pippa Mahood, who is a member of the Creative Communities Working Group, said the fund encourages applications from performing arts projects in Hamilton, such as live performances of theatre, music and dance.

“The Performing Arts Contestable Fund is keen to support projects that are designed to be ongoing and eventually become self-supporting, have clear auditing components and engage with and develop culturally diverse arts audiences,” she said.

Also taken into consideration will be applicants’ history of attracting sufficient audience numbers to performances and other success, recognition from peers and industry experts, and any specialised training or practical experience. However new organisations are also welcome to apply.
