The public are being advised to avoid Heu Heu Parade as approximately 150 metres of the road has been eroded by the Tauranga Taupō River due to recent rains.

In the first instance, Waikato Regional Council has undertaken emergency works to the river bank to stabilise the bank. In addition, Taupō District Council staff is working with assistance from the Waikato Regional Council to develop a plan to reinstate the road.

Heu Heu Parade is closed to the general public; however, temporary access to properties on the road is available along the grass berm.

Taupō District Council’s, Infrastructure Manager, Denis Lewis said that the two Councils are working as quickly as possible to find a useful solution.

“At this stage, we do not know how long it will take before the road is again open to the public. We are working as quickly as we can, but safety is a priority.” Recent rains have caused flooding across much of the country.
