Taupō District residents are advised that the phone lines for the main Taupō District Council office (in Taupō) are currently unavailable.

Residents attempting to ring the main land line at Council offices on Rifle Range Road will be redirected to the Council’s after-hours service.

The following Council locations are also unable to receive calls: The Museum and Library, Destination Great Lake Taupō, Parks and Reserves, Archives.

Calls have been routed to the Council’s after-hours service who will field calls to determine level or urgency. Non urgent calls will be logged in the Council’s live Service Request System and will be addressed as appropriate. Urgent calls will be transferred to a duty officer.

The Great Lake Centre and the Events Centre are able to receive calls.

Group Manager Operational Services, Gareth Green, says that the Council cannot confirm the cause at this stage but that it appears to be a cable fault (not the phone system). A technician from the phone provider has been dispatched to the Council office.

Green says Council is not able to provide an estimated time of return to service but will endeavour to keep the community updated. “At this stage, we don’t know how long it will take before the phones are back up. Our after-hours service team will do their best to field all calls and we appreciate everyone’s patience.”
