Now in its 12th year Ecofest, a joint initiative of Tasman District Council and Nelson City Council, continues to find new ways to inspire all of us to be a little bit more environmentally aware.

The message is simple – by making just a few simple changes to our lifestyles we can all save ourselves some money, reduce our impact on the environment and improve our health and general wellbeing.

The theme for this years event is “Getting there is half the fun” – active and sustainable transport. With the new cycle trails and linking tracks, car pooling, the N-Bus service, electric cars and bio-fuels, not to mention good old foot power, many people are thinking twice about the best way to commute each day or get the kids to school. This year’s expo will explore all the opportunities available and also enable you to have a go on a wide range of transport options.

As always Ecofest is far more than just the two day Expo, which is being held at the Trafalgar Centre in Nelson on the 18 and 19 August 2012. It also incorporates a range of fun and educational activities and challenges that run across the region from 4 August until 13 August 2012.

Tasman District Council supports Ecofest as part of its commitment to environmental education and improving the health and wellbeing of the residents of Tasman.
