Richmond’s main street is about to be cast in a much better light, with 32 new poles and lamps delivering more efficient night-time illumination.

Transportation Projects Engineer Steve Elkington says the improvements cover Queen Street from Gladstone Road to Salisbury Road, and involve new LED lighting technology. These lamps produce a brighter white light – as opposed to the yellow of sodium lamps – and consume less electricity.

New poles should all be in place by early August 2012, with the LED lamps to follow soon after. Steve says the result will be much-improved lighting in the main pedestrian area of town.
