WELLINGTON CITY

We're hosting a series of briefings with GNS Science to give you a better understanding of the earthquake risk to our city.

Wellington has already experienced four significant earthquakes since 1840. Our city survived those quakes with minimal casualties.

We'll talk about what we've learned from those events, what we're learning from the Canterbury earthquake sequence and what we know from recent GNS Science research.

The briefings will explain what has been done to improve the resilience of our community and infrastructure.
You'll also find out more about how to make sure you and your family are ready for an earthquake.

The briefings will be held at the following locations:

  • Thursday 23 August, 7.30pm: Johnsonville Community Centre, 3 Frankmoore Avenue
  • Thursday 30 August, 7.30pm: St Anne's Parish Hall, 22 Emmett Street, Newtown
  • Tuesday 18 September, 7.30pm: Island Bay School, Clyde Street
  • Thursday 27 September, 7.30pm: The New Crossways Community Centre, 6 Roxburgh Street, Mt Victoria.

Entry is free. To register to attend a session, phone (04) 499 4444 or fill out the following registration form:

In addition to the community briefings, we're also holding a series of stakeholder briefings.

We're planning to host more briefings over the next few months and we'll let you know when and where they'll be held.
