The community is being asked for its feedback on a number of proposed changes to the speed limits on some local roads.
The amended draft speed limit bylaw has resulted from a review of a number of local speed limits and Queenstown Lakes District Council transport manager Denis Mander says one of the suggested changes was spearheaded by residents.
“The suggested alteration of the current 70 km/h limit to 50 km/h at Kelvin Heights on the stretch of Peninsula Road from west of Willow Place to west of Loop Road was driven by a residents’ petition,” Mr Mander said.
“Concerns were raised around safety with the current limit and we’ve taken that on board while conducting the review.”
Other areas where speed limits changes are mooted include Cardrona, Hawea, Wanaka and the Wakatipu Basin.

Full details of the proposed new speed limits and which portions of road are affected can be viewed in the draft Speed Limit Bylaw which is available online at www.qldc.govt.nz or at Council offices and public libraries in Queenstown and Wanaka.
Submissions on the draft speed limit bylaw close at 5pm on Wednesday 26 September and a hearing will be held in October.
