Public Notification of Application for Removal of a Mature Tree from Reserve Land

Marlborough District Council Reserves Policy stipulates that requests for removal of trees of significance (or taller than 6.0 metres) located on reserves must be publicly notified, to provide the public with the opportunity to make submissions in respect of the request.

Schedule

Applicant:

Carey J White – Seaport Trust Project Coordinator

Species and location of tree:
A Douglas Fir, located on the north-east perimeter of the car park adjacent to the Waitohi Stream and the Auckland St Powerhouse Reserve in Picton (south side of the skate park).

Reasons given for the request:

  • Shading of the Trust offices
  • Exotic tree, which is contrary to the surrounding native planting
  • Mess created by cones dropping from the tree
  • Street light encroachment
  • Assumed potential to fall across the adjacent bridge or into the stream

Any person may make a submission on the application. Council will consider all submissions prior to deciding whether to retain or remove the tree. Submissions must be made in writing to the Council.
