A bright new feature is being laid on an access path to the Coastal Walkway.

Painted tiles have been installed on the path that links the walkway to Cutfield Road.

Manager Parks Mark Bruhn says the tiles were created about 10 years ago by children at West End, Devon Intermediate and St Joseph’s schools.

“A local teacher, Jane Aitken Connolly, worked with the schools and NPDC to put them down as a Coastal Walkway feature,” he says.

“They brighten up this accessway and will be a lovely talking point for children.”

Says Mrs Aitken Connolly: “The aim was for the students to create artwork to beautify and create community links with the Coastal Walkway. We received funding from Creative Communities NZ and more than 800 students have been involved, so it’s great to see these tiles are now installed.”
