WELLINGTON CITY

New traffic lights in Courtenay Place will be operating tomorrow (12 September), improving the safety of the two pedestrian crossings near Blair and Allen streets and bus flow. Please watch for the new lights if you are driving and cross with the green man if you are on foot.

Wellington has the busiest central city footpaths in the country, which is one of the reasons why we have been progressively widening and upgrading footpaths and improving pedestrian connections and crossing points. We also have the highest rate of public transport use in New Zealand.

The Council's Transport Network Project Manager, Stephen Harte, says the phasing of the new lights is designed to balance the needs of pedestrians and bus users.

"Pedestrians will be waiting less than a minute to cross."
