Monday the 17th of September marks the beginning of Speech-Language Therapy Awareness Week’s nationwide campaign aptly entitled: Speak Up!

Speech-Language Therapists work with both children and adults with a wide variety of communication and swallowing difficulties, ranging from stuttering, to swallowing disorders to speech difficulties following a stroke and much, much more.

The goal of Speak Up! is to raise awareness of the very important yet somewhat under-recognised work carried out with a huge variety of clients across the country.

President of the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists Association: Helen McLauchlan is keen to spread the word with a positive, pro-active message: "Communication is a fundamental human right and speech language therapy awareness week is our chance to Speak Up for and with those who are challenged by communication or swallowing impairment."

Patron of NZSTA is Youth Court Justice Judge: Andrew Becroft, who overcome a debilitating stutter with the help of SLT, and now holds a very important position in the justice community, working with the youth of New Zealand.
